Clogged Drain
Once more than one fixture backs up at the same time the blockage is past the fixture and into the shared line, which is the point to stop running water and call.
When this becomes an emergency
- A sink that drains fine in the morning and slowly by evening.
- Gurgling from a tub whenever the washing machine empties.
- Standing water in a shower pan that takes several minutes to clear.
- A smell from the floor drain that returns within a day of cleaning.
What a pro does
The first thing a plumber wants to know is how many fixtures are involved. One slow lavatory is a branch problem. A tub and a toilet backing up together says the main line, and those two jobs go in completely different directions. New Mexico water is hard almost everywhere, and the calcium that shows up as white crust on a faucet is doing the same thing inside the drain, building a rough scale that catches soap and hair instead of letting it pass. That's why a drain here can close up in a house where nothing changed. Older properties on shallow wells often see it worse. The plumber clears the line mechanically, then checks how the water runs afterward, because a drain that empties and then slows again in a week is telling you the blockage was a symptom rather than the cause. Where the pattern suggests the problem is further out, a camera goes down the cleanout to see the pipe wall itself.
